Found a Susan B in the water tonight………:cam:
Rocky Neck East Lyme Ct. It was a nice afternoon so I escaped work and made tracks to the lane. Quite a few depositors and the closest I came to gold was a Susan B. that had been in the water for a while. Met up with one other guy with an Excal…….he didn’t get much either…..had the mumbles about hitting the penny lane. Yo Alfano! Are you out there?
I just got home and got the message. Have Rick send that armcup out to you ASAP so your kid doesn’t miss any detecting time. I was going to get one just for a back-up but I can also stop in at Treasure Island and get one since Greg has them in stock also. Good Luck and HH.

It was something different.
The Button says FOR GENTLEMEN with 3 stars on the front and the back is rusted since it had a steel back. Thought I would just throw it in. Thanks though Erik and Good Luck and HH.

I figured you would say that, so I had it all boxed up and ready to go out in the morning
This was my last one in stock, but felt if you needed one I could give you mine as i would put on a metal one I have here. I will get more in stock as a couple of you guys sure do break them while I never broke one in 6 years. Rick

Re: STILL LEARNING
well i hope you’re running Iron mask at -10 and sensitivity cranked down to 16-18 where there’s lots of black sand. i was driven nuts the first time i walked on to the beach with the EX II. I had to call my Minelab dealer and ask what the hecks up with this. After he told me what settings to adjust, I started to find all kinds of coins etc. also, make sure your GAIN is not too high. Use advanced mode and set DEEP and FAST "ON". Don’t try to run this machine at top settings until you learn it or you’ll just be taking it for a stroll. and remember if an area is full of trash, with a 10.5" coil you’re going to a lot of signals. Move away and find a less trashier spot on the beach if possible. get some confidence in the machine and how it responds to different metals. Good luck!

Can anyone give me some info on a find
Tim one of the guys up here found this and ask me to post it to see if anyone can give any info on it. It looks like it is a coin or token made into a necklace or medallion of some sort. Looks like it comes from Nebraska too. Anyone know what is or any info on it?? Thanks Rick

Re: Standard or 5″ coil
You’ll love both coils. If you are covering large ground with not alot of trash, you’ll want to use the standard coil. If you are in a park or an old yard where there are lots of signals close together you’ll want to use the small coil so you can pick one signal out by itself. I live not too far from you in the far S.W. VA area and the soil here is very easy to work with running about a 50 most times. I used to always hunt in the coin and jewerly mode when I first got my detector but when I got willing to really give the relic mode a try, I’ve never been back to the c/j mode. The relic is so much better and the little signals are so much easier to hear.

Sure sounds great Eddie.
I hope to see you post a Seated yet this year and I hope that on Monday that your friend takes you to his spot and you finally get one. Who knows, you might just walk away with more than one. Good Luck and HH Buddy!

Re: Targets falling thru scoop
…just not having to carry the darn scoop is reason enough…
kaptain – I’m not sure I’m clear, you do have to still carry the scoop correct? The only difference is you just dump everything into the sifter rather than shake the scoop in the water right?

silver versus clad
Do you notice any difference with the MXT in readings when you dig a silver coin, versus its clad type. Usually I read a quarter and then am surprised when it is silver. I might not be paying attention enough. Rob

Standard or 5″ coil
After a few years of using a single tone brand X detector, I got the green finally for an MXT and it will be here tomorrow. (I’m 55 years old and feel like an 8 year old on Christmas Eve). I also ordered the 5" excelerator coil with it. I’ve read reports (till I’m blind) about the different size coils (DD, etc) but can’t find any real facts about that vs the standard 9.5" coil. I live in Western North Carolina (Asheville area) if that says anything unusual about the ground mineralization here. My main interests are coins and jewelry but you know I’ll be bouncing back and forth with all the settings. Appreciate any comments and if anyone in this area wants a hunt buddy, let me know.

It also means that RedRockNvDFX. Thanks for mentioning that!

Re: Back in Town – :cam: Couple Oldies
As for your quarter-sized copper, my first inclination was "Large Cent", but if it’s the SAME SIZE it’s not one. The LC is bigger. Does it look like this if you put the quarter on the LC? If so, then it’s an LC. Mike, Its the same size – exacly! – like it came out of the same mold There are no visable markings Looks like a slug from an electrical box, only copper?? Do you find old coins in the surf – if so – how do they hold to the salt water?

Thanks Eddie!:detecting:
So this time I will not put your Barber Dime to shame since I wasn’t lucky enough to find one this weekend. It was kinda weird digging that many old Nickels in one day but I will take as many as I can get. Hope you are able to get out and try finding some nice finds soon and Good Luck and HH.
